2008 Quilt Show - Judged:
Innovative Art Winners

Silk Trilogy
(click image to see larger version)

These three collage quilts are brand new.

They are constructed from silk scraps froman Oregon clothing designer's remnant bin.

Each piece consists of a foundation piece with bits and pieces of silk placed on top and basted down. Then I free-motion quilted everything in place.

Here and there I used a black or grey ink pen to highlight an area, or extend a line, giving the design more continuity.

I like the balance of colors and shapes creating a trio of small contemporary wall quilts.

Value Study in Neutrals
(click on image to see larger version)

These fusing and couching techniques were learned at Art Quilt Tahoe in 2007, in a class with Carol Taylor. I chose to work in neutrals as a challenge to myself. Although I prefer bright colors, I'm very pleased with this piece.

Zaida's Starry Night
(click on image to see larger version)

I had promised my duahgter-in-law, Desiree, a quilt based on Van Gogh's "Starry NIght". The birth of my granddaughter, Zaida, was the perfect opportunity to keep my promise. This quilt was the centerpiece and theme for Zaida's baby shower, and hangs on the wall in her room.

Canyon Sunset

I love the rainbow colors and lively geometric designs of the traditional Indian trade blankets. This is my first attempt to do a quilted version of such a blanket.
