Opportunity Quilt 2008

Springtime Rhapsody - 94" x 102", Broderie Perse Applique design.

This year's Opportunity Quilt was won by Lisa Stine, the harpist from Nevada City who gives free lessons to cancer patients and their families and works with music, especially Celtic, with kids. A fitting home for the "Rhapsody". Nancyan sold her the tickets and is one of her students. She will deliver the quilt or already has.
Our Opportunity Quilt for 2008 is "Springtime Rhapsody" and it was unveiled at the July picnic. The design is a very traditional Broderie Perse appliqué with flowers, swirling vines and lots and lots of hand quilting. The quilt was entered in the Nevada County Fair where it received a blue ribbon and very nice comments from the judges.

Our much appreciated ticket sponsors this year are:
  • Betty's Toy Box,

  • Creative Machine Arts,

  • Sugar Pine Quilt Shop, and

  • Fabrics on Mill Street.
The following Guild members were a part of this project:

  • Overall design and flower appliqué: Margaret Boothby

  • Applique of trees and vines: Myrna Raglin, Susie Ernst and Kathy McDaniel

  • Assembly, including half-square triangle border: Susie Ernst

  • Binding: Cathy Stone

  • Hand Quilters:
      Susan Hopkins,
      Betsy Tyler,
      Susie Ernst,
      Kathy McDaniel,
      Susan Jones,
      Reta Cole,
      Nancyan Tracy,
      Millie LaMoure,
      Cathy Stone,
      Gerri Griswold,
      Lois Goodwill,
      Ruby Foster,
      Norma Keeley,
      Carolyn Croker and
      Margaret Boothby.

The wonderful quilters were tireless in their efforts, some quilting several days a week, rain, snow or sunshine!

We put the quilt on the frame February 17 and took it off to work the borders on May 29. We kept track of our hours with a total of over 600!
