  PTQG Scholarship Committee

  • Meeting time: As necessary.

  • Meeting place: Usually at the Chairperson's home.

  • Committee's Objective:  Annually provide two scholarships.
  • One of the Pine Tree Quilt Guild of Nevada County purposes is to promote education. The Guild offers an annual scholarship in the field of fiber art, textiles, design and other related courses of study.

    Who May Apply
    Any student regarless of race or sex, who is a resident of Nevada County, who plans to further his/her education in the field of fiber art, textiles, design or related fields may apply. Past recipients may re-apply to continue his/her studies.

    Where to Apply
    • High School Students: Apply to the scholarship office at your respective high school.
    • Non High School Students: Contact the Scholarship Committee Chair.

    When to Apply
    All applications must be received no later than March 1st.

    Application Review
    All applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee appointed by the presiding Guild president. Review includes written application and interview.

    Scholarship Award
    The decision will be based on grade point average, need goals, college preparedness. The scholarship will be awarded on the decision of the scholarship committee and presented by the Pine Tree Quilt Guild. The amount will be predetermined each year by the Board of Directors.

    Issuance
    A check shall be issued by the Guild treasurer to the chosen recipient upon presentation of a letter of acceptance from his or her chosen school.

       2011 Scholarship Recipients

           • Kathryn Hamilton, Nevada Union High School.
             intends to begin her college studies at Sierra College, continuing the study of
             art and art history. Kathryn is a talented artist, particularly enjoying mixed
             media.

           • Leanne Convis is headed for either Southern Oregon or Cal State Chico,
             pursuing the continuation of her education in Costume Design. Kathryn
             has designed and made creative costumes for drama productions for three
             of her high school years.

       2010 Scholarship Recipients

           • Teniah Miller, Nevada Union High School.
              Teniah plans on pursuing fashion design at the
              Art Institute of San Francisco

           • Claire Emily Rose Jeffers, Bear River High School.
              Claire is entering the field of fashion merchandising at
              California State University Long Beach

           • Shuya Ma, to study fashion design.

           • Justine Toro, to pursue art.
