Workshop November 5, 2025 Color with Christine Barnes
This class covers the three color characteristics (value, temperature and intensity), followed by cut-and-paste exercises using the 11 x 17 printed handouts. For example, in the first exercise, you’ll focus on value to 1) create a design that “reads” and 2) conveys a sense of depth. (Don’t worry if you don’t understand; you will.) We’ll pin up and discuss the mock-blocks for each exercise. It’s fascinating, and you’ll see what works, what doesn’t, and why.
Christine Barnes has been teaching and speaking about color for more than 25 years. Degrees in Design and Journalism segued into a writing and editing career for Sunset Magazine and Books, Martingale, and C&T. When Sunset closed the book division, she turned to her love of quilting, especially color theory as it applies to quilts. She is the author of fourteen books, three of them on color, and numerous articles for quilt-making magazines. Her main message? “There are classic color concepts—and they work. You can do color!”
