2014 Scholarship Recipients

Kiana Kraft was chosen for her excellent academic record, her pursuit of art at Sierra College as well as Nevada Union and her outstanding leadership skills. Kiana plans to pursue her leadership and art skills by majoring in Communications and Media Arts at the University of California, Davis.

• Brynn Farwell has won a scholarship for a second year.  She is currently attending Cornish College of the Arts as a freshman with a major in visual arts. Brynn will be attending a study abroad program through the University of Washington for a month this summer to study art in Rome, Italy.  Brynn has already enrolled at Cornish for her upcoming sophomore year. 

2013 Scholarship Recipients

Jessica Schoellermanhas received the Pine Tree Quilt Guild scholarship for the second year. Jessica is currently attending California Baptist University in Riverside majoring in Graphic Design.

Brynn Farwell is a senior at Nevada Union High School. She will be attending Cornish School of the Arts in Seattle this Fall and will be majoring in Visual Arts.

2012 Scholarship Recipients

Samantha Kober attends Nevada Union and hopes to attend Brown University majoring in Fine Arts. She has excelled in high school with great grades and various honor courses as well as a good foundation in the arts including a summer session at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Jessica Schoellerman attends Forest Lake Christian School and has been accepted by the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and will be majoring in Illustration. Jessica has received straight A's all four years, participated in 4-H, been ASB president as well as pursuing her interest in Art.

2011 Scholarship Recipients

Kathryn Hamilton, Nevada Union High School.
Intends to begin her college studies at Sierra College, continuing the study of art and art history. Kathryn is a talented artist, particularly enjoying mixed media.

Leanne Convis is headed for either Southern Oregon or Cal State Chico, pursuing the continuation of her education in Costume Design. Leanne has designed and made creative costumes for drama productions for three of her high school years.

2010 Scholarship Recipients

Teniah Miller, Nevada Union High School. Teniah plans on pursuing fashion design at the Art Institute of San Francisco.

Claire Emily Rose Jeffers, Bear River High School. Claire is entering the field of fashion merchandising at California State University Long Beach

One important purpose of the Pine Tree Quilt Guild is the promotion of education in the textile arts through participation in the guild, outreach programs, speakers and workshops. In addition, the Guild furthers its educational goals by the granting of two scholarships each year to graduating high school students or current college students who are pursuing study in textile arts, design or other art-related fields. Applicants must be residents of Nevada County. Applicants may apply to their scholarship office at their respective high school or may apply directly to the scholarship chair of the Guild who will forward an application to the applicant. All completed applications must be received no later than April 1st.

The Scholarship committee determines the recipients for the year based on art interests, grade point average, need, goals and college preparedness. The awards are granted at each school's Award Night and the monies are issued upon receipt of verified registration at college for the Fall.

Who May Apply
Any student regarless of race or sex, who is a resident of Nevada County, who plans to further his/her education in the field of fiber art, textiles, design or related fields may apply. Past recipients may re-apply to continue his/her studies.

Where to Apply
• High School Students: Apply to the scholarship office at your respective high school.
• Non High School Students: Contact the Scholarship Committee Chair.

When to Apply
All applications must be received no later than April 1st. Find the Scholarship application under PTQG Forms.

Application Review
All applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee appointed by the presiding Guild president. Review includes written application and interview.

Scholarship Award
The decision will be based on grade point average, need goals, college preparedness. The scholarship will be awarded on the decision of the scholarship committee and presented by the Pine Tree Quilt Guild. The amount will be predetermined each year by the Board of Directors.

A check shall be issued by the Guild treasurer to the chosen recipient upon presentation of a letter of acceptance from his or her chosen school.
