“Lilacs – A Symbol of Renewal” by Margaret Vodicka. Art Quilt. From Donna Greenwald’s Jamboree class – Confetti Technique. This technique uses fabric that has been backed with “Mistyfuse”, chopped up into tiny, tiny pieces and then scattered around to create a confetti-like effect.
“The Oak Tree” by Julie Berry. Art Quilt. Created from a photo and is enhanced with thread painting and fusible applique.
“Plastic Tide” by Margaret Vodicka. Art Quilt. Demonstrates the effect of plastics in our waterways and oceans. Tropical spot created with rough-edged applique and overlaid see-through vinyl with plastic and sign.

“Aloft” by Trish Morris-Plise. Art Quilt. Computer Altered photograph of rigging in a tall ship. The image was printed on cotton fabric and lines were enhanced with black permanent marker. Quilted with monofilament thread.
“Tahiti Menu” by Lynda Lasich. Art Quilt. inspired by a saved menu. On August 18, 1940, Lillian Fitzgerald sat at the Captain’s table aboard the S. S. Monterey, cruising the Pacific Ocean to Tahiti. She saved the dinner menu that had a line sketch on the cover that I used for inspiration. It was such a momentous occasion that everyone at the table autographed her menu on the back. The menu is included in a pocket on the back of the quilt. While working on the quilt, I was afraid that the menu would be lost as it floated from one table top to another, so I put it in a “safe place.” Months later when I completed the quilt, that “safe place” couldn’t be found. Days were spent looking for it. While making facial masks, the menu was found at the bottom of the Australian fabrics.
“Steampunk Air Race” by Lynda Lasich. Art quilt. This was a Mtn Art Quilters’ challenge that took me out of my box. The background is pieced while the balloons are applique and/or attached by velcro. There are clock and watch parts, bottle caps, embossed metals, copper and fabric netting, vintage pins, beads, leather strapping, foam rubber and half a small water bottle.
“Colorful Flower” by Bonnie Lattin-Hensel. Art Quilt. I love color! I bought this panel and added the borders and beads. It was a delight to work on. I have never done bead work on a quilt before. I think it adds something to the quilt.
“Sunflower Quilt” by Lanie Nepper. Art Quilt. It is the third quilt I ever made. I took a class at Whistle Stop in 2016 and loved the class, loved the finished quilt, but quickly realized I didn’t like working with appliqué.
“A Pair of Pelicans” by Sandra Bruce. Art Quilt. Made with commercial fabrics, with ProFab paint applied on top and quilted on my Bernina. I’ve been wanting to try painting on top of my Matrix squares to see how it goes…it’s a little trying to get the paint into the seams with the brush. But I’m happy with the result. I think pelicans are fascinating creatures!
“Purple Fantasy Forest” by Sue Marshall. Art Quilt. Done as a challenge for Mountain Art Quilters.
“Before the written word, mankind communicated through cave art” by Karla Rogers. Art Quilt. It was created using a reverse applique technique learned in a class taught by Charlotte Patera. It tells the story of my son, his goat, Nana (she loved owls) and their mutual love of music!

“Still Crazy After all These Years” by Karle deProsse. I started this in a workshop taught by Bonnie Lattin-Hensel to my mini-group, Rising Stars. Traditional – Pieced. I used 144 of the decorative stitches on my sewing machine between the crazy squares and still didn’t use them all! This quilt is for me for the cold evenings curled up on the couch.
“Confetti Quilt” by Lanie Nepper. Traditional – Pieced. It was supposed to be entered in the quilt show in 2017 with my mini group, but I hated the configuration, so it went in my UFO pile. This March I took it apart and reassembled the squares in a different pattern. I love it now.
“Birds of a Feather” by Sandra Bruce. Traditional – Pieced. Made from a pattern by Jean-Sophie Wood. A long arm customer made this quilt and brought it to me, and I wanted to make one myself. The blocks are very fun to make, especially varying the legs and bird colors, and I enjoyed the positioning of the blocks on my design wall. Quilted on my longarm.

The pattern is Villa Rosa Designs “Celebration”. It now hangs at Nevada County Children’s Behavioral Health, brightening the formerly drab office of a therapist.
“Rainbow Storm at Sea” by Joy Waggener. Traditional – Pieced. I made this old favorite pattern using Marti Michell templates, which enabled it to go together very efficiently. The owner has been my sister’s primary caregiver for the last two years, but is studying to be a meteorologist, hence the “weather” references. The side note is that I put a Storm at Sea quilt in Pine Tree Quilt Guild’s very first quilt show, but it was a child’s nautical version made before rotary cutters were available. How things have changed!
“Grandmother’s Victory” by Rita Behr. Traditional – Pieced. Two matching throw pillows were also made. It has wool batting and is warm in the winter. Machine pieced and machine quilted.

“Quilter’s Inspiration” by Stephanie Petrick. Traditional – Pieced. I made this a couple of years ago with Kaffe Fassett fabrics. I had cut out all the fabric before joining a friend for a girl’s weekend of quilting. After making several blocks, I had some major misgivings about my fabric choice for this pattern. My friend encouraged me to continue so I took a leap of faith and followed her advice. I was so surprised to discover after the quilt was finished that I LOVED it. There’s so much going on with all the bright colors, but the little bit of white fabric throughout gives it enough breaks that somehow it works. At least, it does for me. I have it hanging on the wall beside my sewing machine. It’s a reminder to me how creative and surprising the quilting process truly is.
“Lime Green Delight” by Stephanie Petrick. Traditional – Pieced. Sue Miller had asked me to quilt a top she made for Nevada Union High school. I loved the pattern so much I made one for me with fabric I had been holding onto waiting for the perfect pattern.

“Bed Quilt” by Patty Biasca. Traditional – Pieced. Quilted by Elaine Beattie. I loved this quilt; it was the first queen size quilt I made after I started quilting after a 25-year hiatus. Unfortunately, a thief thought it was a good throw to put stolen goods in and it disappeared from my life in 2013.
“Bob’s quilt” by Patty Biasca. Traditional – Pieced. Quilted by Elaine Beattie. This bargello queen size quilt was fun to make. I’m happy to report that by following the directions row by row (really column by column) – all 49 of them – I never messed up or got lost.

“President’s Quilt” by Lorna Straka. It was going to be a “Gypsy Wife” quilt but I went in a different direction with the 40 President’s blocks presented to me.
“College Quilt” by Fran Erickson. (It’s flashing because it’s a .gif file). Traditional – Pieced. This is a single, extra long for college beds. I made it out of scraps after I did the Flying Geese Migration. I love making a quilt from scraps. Makes me feel virtuous.
